Overview
Wrinkle Relaxing Injections have been actively used for over 20 years in tens of thousands of patients worldwide. It has an excellent safety profile and is used in many therapeutic areas.

The product most commonly used for this treatment is Botox®. It has US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and European approval (including France and Switzerland).

Wrinkles such as frown lines between the eyes, forehead lines and crows feet are caused by overactive muscle movement which eventually wears away collagen, causing the skin to crease and wrinkles will appear.

The injection relaxes the muscles, preventing the movement which forms the wrinkles. This results in a smoothing out of the lines.

Is this right for me?
This treatment is particularly good for patients who have frequently used expressions that cause facial lines. These lines may be caused by difficulty with bad sight, a tendency to laugh a lot or frown frequently.

The procedure will remove frown lines; forehead wrinkles and crows feet which appear when you smile. After this procedure your appearance becomes less tired looking, smoother and fresher.

What results can I expect? 
Results are quite dramatic and you may start to see results from the second day after the treatment, although some patients take up to 14 days to see the full effect.

The results can last from 3 to 4 months although it can vary from person to person following the initial treatment.
 
What is involved? 
The treatment only takes 10-15 minutes. Your attending nurse or doctor will assess your muscle movement by asking you to smile and frown. They will then prepare the injection and determine the injection site to achieve the best results.
 
A very small dose of Botox using an extremely fine needle is injected into the required area. Sometimes this causes a brief stinging sensation but discomfort is so mild that an anaesthetic is not necessary.
    
What are the benefits? 
Wrinkle Relaxing Injections are a simple and extremely effective treatment which stops the skin creasing by reducing muscle movement, giving the skin time to recover.

This treatment causes facial lines to soften and fade away. This non-surgical procedure can also dramatically reduce the appearance of lines and improve your appearance.

What are the risks? 
As with all prescription medicines, Wrinkle Relaxing Injections can cause side effects and our doctor will advise you about these in more detail.

The side effects most commonly experienced by patients are short term and are linked to the injection e.g pain on injection, redness, bruising, swelling or a slight temporary headache.

Another side effect can be temporary ptosis, a drooping of the upper eyelid, which can be caused by a spread of the injection to nearby muscles.

An experienced injector can minimise (but not eliminate) the risk of such side effects, and by following the aftercare you can also reduce the possibility of this side effect.
  
Aftercare 
After the procedure there may be a mild swelling and redness which will subside within a few days. Bruising at the injection site may occur and this can be covered with make-up if needed. You can return to work or day to day activities immediately although strenuous exercise should be avoided for a day or two.

How long will the results last? 
The results usually last from 3-4 months. As the injection wears off the wrinkles will start to reappear but they tend not to be as noticeable.

To maintain the smooth and youthful appearance all year round, it requires three to four injections. Once treatments are repeated, the effects tend to last longer therefore less visits and fewer injections are required.

Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis) 
The same Wrinkle Relaxing Injections can be used to reduce excessive sweating. Both men and women can suffer from excessive sweating which is caused from over active sweat glands.

One of the most effective treatments involves injecting tiny amounts of muscle relaxant in a grid pattern over the required area. There is a minimal amount of discomfort, and normally no anaesthetic is needed.

The treatment is effective within several days leading to a reduction in the amount of sweating. The results can last 3-6 months.
