Tooth Whitening
As white teeth are subconsciously associated with youth, Tooth Whitening can have a remarkable effect on a persons overall appearance. Tooth Whitening can be a highly effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface. It cannot make a complete colour change; but it can significantly lighten the existing shade. Tooth Whitening represents the least invasive way of improving your smile. This technique can produce remarkable results in a very short space of time. There are two ways this can be done; in our surgery using light activated gel
or at home using custom fit moulds / trays that hold the Tooth Whitening gel to
your teeth. Teeth can sometimes become sensitive during or after treatment. But this is usually temporary and should disappear within a few days. What are the risks? The risks are negligible. However, the success of any treatment is dependant on the quality of your teeth, the way you treat your teeth and overall oral health. Teeth can sometimes become sensitive during or after treatment. But this is usually temporary and should disappear within a few days. What is involved? Light activated Tooth Whitening is carried out in our dental surgery. A gel is applied to your teeth and a light is used to activate the crystals in the gel. A rubber dam is placed over your gums to protect them. Light activated whitening treatments may take approximately 60 minutes. Home Tooth Whitening involves our dentist creating a mould of the teeth to be whitened. These moulds / trays are then taken home by the patient and whitening gel is applied to the areas of the mould that fit the teeth you wish to whiten. The mould / tray is then placed in the mouth around the teeth for the period of time prescribed by our dentist. This process is then repeated as required. Tooth Whitening can make your teeth up to five or six shades lighter. If your tooth discolouration is severe, the treatment may need to be repeated a second time at a later date. It is possible that a combination of light activated and home whitening may be used. Preparig for your treatment The timing of this treatment may have to be carefully monitored if it is to fit in with other treatments. For example for Crowns, Veneers and White Fillings. After your Treatment If after 48 hours you are still uncertain about any aspect of your treatment please call the clinic. How long will the results last? The ongoing success of your Tooth Whitening will ultimately be dependant on the nature of your lifestyle, your oral hygiene and your eating habits. Healthy Mouth If you are aware of bad breath, loose teeth, or have noticed excessive bleeding, particularly when cleaning your teeth you may have gum problems that we can help you with. Please ask our dental team to discuss this with you. |
