Overview
IPL is a non-surgical procedure for treating thread veins, redness and Rosacea. IPL is for all skin types. The process is ideal for patients with active lifestyles because it requires no downtime and has a low risk of side effects.
Is this right for me?
This treatment is particularly good for patients who have facial thread veins, broken capillaries, spider veins and Rosacea. Sunlight, the elements and the natural ageing process all contribute to the development of thread veins. Your face, hands and chest are the first parts of the body to show signs of ageing because they receive so much sun exposure.
What results can I expect?
When having IPL skin treatments patients are very pleased with the results because the process treats the full face, neck, chest or hands rather than addressing a single isolated area or imperfection. Thread veins start to diminish and patients see dramatic results within a very short space of time.
What is involved?
You would have a thorough consultation with a Nurse or one of our Medical Aestheticians and this will enable us to assess the area being treated. If you are suitable for treatment we will patch test you on the Harmony IPL system. This system destroys unsightly blood vessels by sending short pulses of light into the skin. The vessels shrink and fade in the weeks after each treatment. All areas of the body can be treated and particular success is seen with red flushing, broken thread veins, red spots and Rosacea. The procedure is quick leading to removal thread veins within a course of 3-6 weeks.
What are the benefits?
In addition to effectively treating the chosen area, the procedure is gentle, non-invasive and safe requiring no downtime. In fact many people even schedule their sessions during their lunch breaks. Additionally, IPL treatments are customised to each individual’s specific skin type and condition, providing the best possible results.
What are the risks?
Thread veins are a real problem for many people. IPL is widely regarded as a safe and effective form of treatment that may also help to improve the texture although there are minimal risks which could occur which are hyper pigmentation, hypo pigmentation, purpura, scarring and mild blistering.
Aftercare
Immediately after the procedure the treated thread veins may appear darker in colour. This is normal and within a couple of weeks they will fade. Aloe Vera gel will be applied to soothe the area and the skin may become pink and feel sore. Some people have described it as feeling like mild sunburn, but this is a reaction that usually disappears within a day or so.
How long will the results last?
Treatment success varies from person to person and relies upon careful patient selection, agreeing realistic expectations and client compliance.
A course of 6 treatments at 2-3 week intervals is normally recommended. Occasionally we find that some patients require more than 6 treatments or an infrequent top-up once the initial course is complete.
