Men keep abreast of cosmetic surgery

As many are preparing for their summer holidays, one cosmetic consultancy has noted a rise in interest in one particular treatment – and this time it’s the blokes going under the knife.

Though cosmetic surgery is normally more associated with women, Newcastle’s Nu-Age Medical Spa have received an unprecedented amount of enquiries by men, with one of the most common treatments being gynaecomastia; more commonly known as a male breast reduction.
With the hot weather fast approaching and summer holidays just around the corner, many men are turning to cosmetic surgery to feel better about themselves when their shirts come off. Sick of hiding away under layers of clothes, men are seeking the help of Nu-Age Medical Spa and going under the knife.
Nu-Age Medical Spa’s Managing Director David Bennison said, “To some people, there is still a stigma attached to men getting cosmetic surgery, but the rise in this particular treatment shows that a lot of men aren’t afraid to take positive action in tackling parts of their body that they’re unhappy with.”

One such man is James, 27, from Gosforth, who said, “I went for the surgery as I felt pretty self conscious about my man boobs. I used to be bigger than I am now, and after losing weight I was still left with a chest most women would be jealous of! At the start of the year I’d book a summer holiday with a few of the lads and I didn’t want to be the only one in the pool with my shirt on, so I knew I had to do something about it.

“I was a bit nervous about the surgery but the staff at Nu-Age Medical Spa were really helpful and friendly and went into great depth about my procedure. I am so happy with the results and I’m not stuck wearing layers of oversized clothing to cover up my chest. My confidence has definitely grown and I can’t wait to get on the beach!”

It is quite common for men to have above average amounts of breast tissue, though it is a problem that a lot of people don’t talk about. It can be weight or hormone related. The procedure involves removing fat or glandular tissue from the breasts and in extreme cases, removal of excess skin which results in a chest that is firmer, flatter and has a better contour.

David said, “Though it’s easy to joke about a condition like this, it seriously affects the confidence of many men. A lot of women wouldn’t have a problem in considering surgery as a last resort to fat removal, but men are traditionally less open to this option. It’s great to see that men are finally starting to accept help towards looking and feeling their best.”

In addition to cosmetic surgery, Nu-Age Medical Spa offer a huge range of different services, including cosmetic dental treatments, laser hair removal and chemical peels.
